DRAFT - FOR CONSIDERATION AT THE 2011/12 AGM The Cook Islands Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the Young Entrepreneur's Scholarship, to enable young Cook Islanders to take up fully-funded part-time distance learning to degree level, while remaining and working in the Cook Islands.
The purpose of the award is to assist those with a drive to expand their knowledge, upgrade their job and business prospects, and improve their ability to contribute to the country, to be able to do so without the burden of course fees.
Applications are open to all Cook Islanders (and permanent residents), including those currently residing overseas who wish to return to the Cook Islands to take up employment and study. Applicants can be aged up to 35 years, and may choose any accredited certificate, diploma or degree level course that would assist their employment or business in the Cook Islands.
Typically awards will be made to cover the course costs for one year's part time study, either through a distance learning provider (e.g. Otago / Massey / Waikato University) or in-country through the USP campus in Rarotonga. A small cash grant is also available to cover incidental costs. Awards will be made annually, and repeat applicants will be welcome.
In addition to course costs, successful Y.E.S. applicants will receive three years free membership of the Cook Islands Chamber of Commerce (worth $450), entitling the YES recipient to all the benefits of other members, attendance at functions and business dinners, access to business development funding, mentoring, and other business support.
Through the Chamber office, Y.E.S. recipients will be able, from time to time, to have consultations with Managers and CEO's of a wide range of companies in Rarotonga, to provide the recipients with useful insights into being successful in the business world.
Existing Chamber members are sponsoring further benefits, which include:
ñ Netbook/laptop computer ñ Cell phone / phone cards / internet cards ñ Waiver on bank account opening fees ñ Others to be confirmed.........
Applications are to be made to the Chamber office, and should include a CV, details of the proposed study, and a one page essay explaining how this award would enable the applicant to advance themselves in the private sector. Short-listed applicants will be contacted for an interview.
Award choices will be made by the Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee. Partial, or multiple awards may be made at their sole discretion. If no suitable applications are received, funds will be rolled forward and made available for the next round. |
